Is anyone familiar with fishing in the Cabo San Lucas Area? I was invited to go to cabo with some family. I am very familiar with freshwater fishing. I ocassionally pier fish in southern California normally the Santa Monica Pier but I am usually fishing freshwater. I was looking online and all i see for the fishing trips in cabo are people catching these big ol fish some look half whale. I no these people arent expecting to be catching these big fish. And I certainly don’t have the gear to catch these fish, do the boat rentals let you use the gear.

Are there any decent trips or setups for trips that catch smaller fish if so the links I looked and couldnt find any thanks

Cabo is world famous for it’s sports fishing, with sail fish and marlin being caught by the boat load (literally) there. There are many fishing charter companies there, and they will supply you with all of the gear you need.

I would highly recommend you going out and fishing for these big fish. You don’t need to be highly skilled to catch them, the captain and his crew on each boat will undauntedly have all the expertize to find the fish and set up your equipment for you. You just really sit back and let them do all of the ground work, you just pull in the big fish when they take your bait.

But i can tell you from my own experiences, there is nothing like seeing a 100+lb fish tailing on top of the water when it’s on the end of your line, and experience you’ll never forget.

    Have fun!

Too hot to travel to Cabo San Lucas in July? Is it too hot to travel to Cabo San Lucas in July? How is the humidity? I live in Phx so used to some heat

  6. Jim2 says:

you are in for a little cooler than the summer heat in PHX . Average weather in Cabo san Lucas is 87-92 but like AZ cools off somewhat in the evening. However they do get the occasional heat wave.
Despite being almost surrounded by water the humidity is relatively low
August and September will see temps as high as 100 but the average is 90 -95

Hola! Well yes, some years it can be quite hot here in Cabo, even in July. Mostly its unbearable in late August and some of September. Depending on the storms. It is mostly dry heat, but if we have quite a bit of weather, then the humidity is horrible.

If you live in Phoenix, then you will definately be able to tolerate the heat and humidity better than us wilty little canadian expats, that’s for sure!

The scheduled flight time is 4hr 50 min but actual flight time is about 4hr 20min.

For Jim2: Yes there is an international airport, San Jose del Cabo airport code SJD. Yes there is a nonstop from Charlotte. US Airways flight 946/947 flies 4 times a week in season and twice a week off season.
You’re a top contributor for Mexico? LOL stick with Cancun

For Cabochick23: There most certainly is a nonstop flight from Charlotte to Cabo San Lucas (SJD), here’s a link with the flight info:

I made one trip there many years ago. The marlin bite shut down for the time we were there — we saw one fish in the day we were out, and it didn’t bite. The fleet brought in one that day, though I assume some were released as well. All the tackle was included in the price of the charter, so that wasn’t a problem, the skipper worked hard, the fish just didn’t cooperate.

However, we’d brought our inshore gear and spent the next day fishing off the rocky shore, catching cabrilla and triggerfish, 1-3 pounds or so in size. We used cut flyingfish for bait, I think if we’d been bright enough to bring some plastic swimbaits they would have worked just fine.

My brother has been down there quite a bit, and has caught plenty of smaller tuna (10-30 pounds) and inshore fish at times, though I don’t have too many details. The resorts’ websites obviously try to attract business with their most impressive catches, but I’m sure they’ll be willing to pursue smaller fish if that’s what you want.

  12. Jim2 says:

There are no non-stop flights from Charlotte. Depending on the airline ,by the time you reach San Jose del Cabo 7-10 hours would have passed depending on the layover.
There is no international airport in Cabo San Lucas. M…59% lol

  13. Cabochick23 says:

Hola. Jim2 is right, WTF is wrong with everyone! There are no direct flights from Charlotte to SJD.
