(EW.com) — Her boots are made for…judging? Reality TV staple and singer Jessica Simpson has met with “American Idol” producers about joining the show’s judging panel, a source close to the show tells EW, confirming a report on TMZ Wednesday afternoon.

“I’m not sure whether her people approached ‘Idol,’ or if it was the other way around,” said the source, who added that Simpson is just one of “dozens” of candidates who’ve been considered for an “Idol” gig when it returns to the air in January 2011.

As was widely reported Tuesday, former “Idol” executive producer Nigel Lythgoe is all but certain to return to the show for its tenth season, and he went on the record last spring saying he favored an entirely new slate of judges for Fox’s ratings juggernaut.

Translation? The network may be looking for more than a replacement for the departing Simon Cowell, who jumped ship at the end of “Idol’s” ninth season in order to launch a U.S.-based version of his popular British series “The X Factor.”

Complicating matters could be the fact that current judge Randy Jackson is reportedly signed through next year, and his colleagueEllen DeGeneres has only completed the first year of a multi-year deal.

“The network’s dream scenario would be to make a splashy announcement at TCA on Monday morning,” said the source, referring to Fox’s presentation at the 2010 TCA Press Tour that is scheduled for August 2. “They’d be the talk of TCA, and the message to other networks would essentially be, ‘Follow that!’”

EW has also learned that despite their names surfacing as potential Cowell replacements earlier this week, both Justin Timberlake and Elton John’s meetings with Idol producers took place “a couple months ago.

Is using LinkedIn useful when job searching? I have heard some information about LinkedIn. Is it useful when searching for a job? Do employers look at LinkedIn for potential candidates or when screening an applicant? Would it be beneficial for me to join? How do you go about networking yourself with others on the site if you do not know too many people?

LinkedIn is great for the job seeker. In fact, it’s said that 80% of employers and recruiters use LinkedIn to prospect for new employees. If you want to network with these people, it is imperative that you create a LinkedIn profile! Now here’s the thing, it’s not enough to just create a profile- you must make sure your profile stands out from the crowd. The best way to do this is to hire a professional to write it for you. Check out LinkedIn-Makeover.com.

Once you have a compelling profile, start connecting with the people you already know by uploading your email contact list to LinkedIn. Once you are connected to your alumni and former (and current) employers and colleagues, start joining industry specific groups. Get involved and interact. Connect with the other group members. Answer questions on the LinkedIn Answers section. Connect with the people who are asking and answering questions alongside you. Start researching your dream companies– places where you want to work. See if you have any shared connections with the employees and use that connection as a reason to send them an invitation to connect.

Make sure you visit the “Jobs” section of LinkedIn to view jobs that have been posted directly on LinkedIn.

Here’s the thing, don’t think of it as looking for a job. Think of it as networking! Remember, networking is much more effective than job searching. You are competing with hundreds, maybe even thousands when you are applying for posted positions and so it is really difficult to stand out. On the other hand, when you are networking, you are making one-on-one connections which gives you the advantage!

I wish you the best of luck!

Can my office make me set up a LinkedIn account? My office is asking everyone to set up a LinkedIn account and I really really do not want one. Do I have the right to refuse?
I am actually speaking on behalf of my husband. Well, he has worked for this business for over 6 years and this was just implemented. He is strongly against having a MySpace, Facebook or Twitter account and really does not want his information on LinkedIn also. Plus he wants to keep private life and work life separate and feels that he does not want his business associates or contacts looking into his private life. We do not have anything to hide, but he likes to lead a more private life.

Yes, but they have the right to fire you.

Ask your boss. How should we know? It’s not a legal obligation, but it may be a workplace requirement much like a dress code. They won’t let you wear skirts? Too bad, either wear pants or find a job that better suits your needs. Same thing here.

      Hi Anne!

Before your husband refuses to set up a LinkedIn account, he should first learn more about this GREAT networking/business tool. It is very different from MySpace and Facebook– it is focused on the professional and not the personal. I liken it to going to a business card exchange or a networking event but instead of it being in person, it’s over the Internet. Your husband can have a professional profile that he can use to further his business career all while keeping the personal stuff out of it.

I wish you and your husband luck! If either of you have any additional questions, feel free to reach out to me via my Website, LinkedIn-Makeover.com
