Microsoft Apologies for Tweet

Microsoft has official apologized for a controversial tweet posted by Microsoft this past weekend. After the news of the death of Amy Winehouse broke out, a PR account for Xbox posted the following tweet:

“Remember Amy Winehouse by downloading the ground-breaking “Back to Black” over at Zune.”

Many people felt the tweet was crass and offensive because it was posted just moments after the death was announced. Today, a spokesman for Microsoft stated that the tweet was not entirely “commercially motivated.” The spokesman further apologized for the tweet.

Whatever the case was, Microsoft definitely is going to take a temporary PR hit from this mistake. If there is one thing that a company should avoid it is blatantly attempting to make money off of a death of somebody. While other companies are currently capitalizing on the death of Amy Winehouse, Microsoft is going to take the brunt of the scrutiny for this PR debacle.
